There was a time in my life when I felt I had to totally divorce myself from Dia de los Muertos and anything concerning spirits, our ancestors + the underworld. This piece was inspired by my heavy decolonization work. “Muertita” makes me happy because with my art I am honoring my traditions, my beliefs and most importantly, I am honoring myself. And I know that makes my Muertos happy, too.
